Abstract

This article examines the main directions of green economy formation in the Republic of Uzbekistan, a country facing increasing environmental pressures alongside ambitious economic development objectives. Drawing on national policy documents, international environmental agreements, and comparative evidence from transition economies, the study analyzes how Uzbekistan is reshaping its industrial structure, energy sector, agricultural practices, and urban infrastructure toward sustainability principles. The article identifies five core strategic directions of green transformation: the expansion of renewable energy capacity, the ecological modernization of industry and production, the development of green agriculture and water-efficient farming, the implementation of green urban and transport systems, and the promotion of circular economy principles. The study argues that the transition to a green economy in Uzbekistan is not a peripheral ecological concern but a structural development priority, given the country's inherited vulnerabilities in water security, land degradation, and energy intensity. The article evaluates both the institutional advances made through national strategies and the structural barriers that constrain faster progress. Recommendations are offered for strengthening the institutional, financial, and human capacity foundations of green economic transition.
